EYEPRIMER Battle: KIKO VS ESSENCE

Holla amigos!

Today I bring you a post where I’m going to compare KIKO’s and Essence’s eyeprimers, and see which one works best! (Or if they work at all!)

I’ve been using this eyeprimers for some time, and I have reached some conclusions that I would like to share.

First of all, is an eyeprimer necessary at all? The answer, for me, is yes. And why is that? Because I’ve got a very oily skin, and it shows almost immediately in my eyelids! If I wear some eyeshadow without primer, it will crease so fast, and smudge all over, because I also have hooded eyes. So it’s a little tricky, but I discovered that eyeprimer really helps to avoid this, and keeps my eyeshadows in place.

So let’s compare both of them!

KIKO EYEPRIMER // ESSENCE EYEPRIMER

ESSENCE: to try and see if eyeprimer made a difference, I decided to buy an inexpensive one, and bought the Essence one first. I really liked that it neutralized my eyelids, and gave them a smooth texture, and it helped the eyeshadows to pop! The formula feels like a liquid concealer, is very smooth and easy to blend in my eyelid, and when it dries, is not sticky, is very soft and silky. I really liked this eyeprimer, but for the long run, I don’t believe it has a long wearing power. I mean for a couple of hours yes, it’s perfect, but for a full day, or a night out, I don’t think it would go through.

KIKO: now, the KIKO one, has a high coverage, it’s not smooth at all, and when you squeeze it out of the tube, it has a moussey feeling. When you apply, it feels very sticky, I guess it’s to grab all the eyeshadows (?!) , but it doesn’t blend as well as the Essence one, and it even shows some texture on my eyelid, like little dots. So it has more staying power, because it has a very sticky feeling and really grabs the powders, but it doesn’t even out my eyelid texture, it shows it more, which I really don’t like, because when applying the shadows, it’s harder to blend them.

Essence Side // KIKO Side

You can see that the eyelid with the Essence Eyeprimer as a very natural finish, and the KIKO side is full coverage, matte, but it hasย more texture.

Battle:ย I’ve worn eyeprimer only on my eyelids for a full day, and, after 12 hours of wear, the Essence one was reduced to a line in the crease of my eye, and the KIKO one was still there, not with this crazy coverage, but it still showed, and the texture too!

So, who wins?!

None of them, or both of them. I like both, they work fine. The KIKO one is a lot harder to work with, because of the formula texture, but it doesn’t smudge and really helps my eyeshadows to stay put, and for longer. The Essence one gives immediately such a beautiful finish that I can’t say I don’t like it either!

And they both neutralize my natural eyelid oilyness, and help the eyeshadows colours to show.

But, if you want a full coverage, longlasting, stays put all-day, inexpensive eyeprimer, KIKO’s the winner!

  1. Did you order from the internet? I have so much lipsticks from them. Some I love, some I don’t. But they have literally almost all formulas, colours, etc. The ones I liked the most are their velvet matte ones. They are very good in my opinion. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. That’s so bad! I imagine the frustration of liking one, but bringing another, and didn’t even like it! What happened to me sometimes was that in store it looked one colour, and in natural light another one. Hate it! ๐Ÿ˜›
I have a review on all their lipsticks I’ve tried, including the velvet mattes, if you want check it out: https://anoonesdiary.wordpress.com/2016/02/02/kiko-lipsticks-review-haul/
Although, I think they recently changed their packaging, but the formulas are mostly the same! ๐Ÿ™‚
I also have a post on their liquid lipsticks, that were limited edition, but (spoiler alert) I didn’t like them! ๐Ÿ˜›
