Hello my dears!
Finally, I had the time to write to you about my Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks! As some of you may have seen, I already reviewed my Colourpop Ultra Satin Lipsticks here, and today I bring you the second part, which is the review of the Ultra Matte ones.
I’ve been trying them for a while now, so I have a little bit more of a first impression to share with you!
So stay with me to find how they worked out! π
I bought 6 matte shades, which are MIDI, BIANCA, TIMES SQUARE, CHI, SUNDAY and VIPER.
First of all, the packaging is the same as the Ultra Satin, it’s clear, which is great so you can identify easilly the colours, but the lettering is super easy to fall, as you can see by my bottles. The lettering peeled entirelly in my BIANCA lipstick, just by staying one day in my bag! But what counts is what’s on the inside, right…
Continuing, the shades I bought are mostly nudes, or everyday wearable colours, and are mostly pinks and beiges.
Here are the swatches:

MIDI, BIANCA, CHI, TIMES SQUARE, SUNDAY, VIPER
My favorite shades, are without a doubt, BIANCA and TIMES SQUARE. But unfortunatelly, the same can not be said about the formula! This ones are super drying, and I expect a liquid lipstick to be drying and don’t have a problem with this. But the Ultra Matte are so dry that they let your lips all wrinkled, and almost make them look smaller. Seriously, I was expecting some drynness, but this is another level. I’ll do a review bellow, speaking about each shade…
1) MIDI
This first shade is MIDI, and the colour is beautiful, it’s a perfect nude pink for me! The problem is when it dries, it immediatly cracks, and accentuates every single line in my lips! And this is not an exclusive problem to this shade. I believe all of them did this. It’s such a shame… we could have been so happy! π₯
2) BIANCA
To me, this is the worst of the bunch!! I mean, I couldn’t move my lips without it literally falling off. It creased immediately after it dried, just look at the first photo. And sometimes I felt a little burning sensation, and it stains so much! I don’t understand how this light colour stains more than my red one from Sephora, which didn’t stain at all! I’ll even leave you a picture of my lips after I wiped off BIANCA!
First, my lips after wearing SUNDAY, I believe, and then, my lips after wearing BIANCA! I actually left BIANCA to photograph last, because it was the only one that stained my lips! WTH?! Just awful.
3) CHI
After the BIANCA fiasco, I’m not even mad at CHI. It doesn’t fall off immediately, but it cracks and settles in my lip lines, as all of them do. It’s more flexible, that’s good, because with this one I can actually smile! Ahahah. Such a shame that it’s not my favourite shade. I thought it was lighter when I ordered it! I don’t think I’ll be using it a lot.
4) TIMES SQUARE
Times Square is my favourite colour, and is the only Ultra Matte that I used for work, which means, more than 9 hours! The formula is like the others, not as bad as BIANCA, but it doesn’t compare to my Sephora Cream Lip Stains. Is drying, it doesn’t give a good finish to my lips, gives me prune lips, etc etc… I don’t even know what else to say!
5) SUNDAY
SUNDAY is a pretty coral pink, I like it, and it might be the one that dries the best, whithout crumbling and cracking immediately. If you love coral shades this might be a good choice. I don’t love the colour, I was expecting a more mauvy one, maybe a “soft terracotta” (as they described it on the site!), but coral is not my thing, so another fail!
6) VIPER
VIPER is described as a “true dusty rose”, but it pulls more of a purple on my lips. It dries matte, but if you don’t wear two coates, the colour doesn’t come off even, it looks patchy, BUT if you do wear two coates, it becomes almost too dry. I think I won’t be wearing it a lot either!
So, after all this testing and trying, I think you might have a pretty good idea of what I think about this lipsticks!
Yes, they are inexpensive, but I tried six of them, and not even one was a great buy! If the colour is right, the formula is unbearable, if the formula is nice, the colour is off. None of them was a HIT for me, and I rather have spent my money on some Sephora Cream Lip Stain, which I love as you can see by my review, or I could have tried another Liquid Lipstick brand! But I don’t regret it, because if I didn’t try them I wouldn’t know. And at least, I liked the Ultra Satin ones!
I’ve tried anything with this ones, lip primer, lip moisturizer, letting it dry with my lips stretched, and they always look bad. They crack as soon as they dry, some bits just fall off, they settle on my lip lines, and even if they go full matte, they make my lips look all wrinkled, which is not a good look! I’ve seen somewhere someone saying that one of this lipsticks felt like nail polish on your lips, and that’s exactly how it felt!
As longevity goes, they do wear for a long time, but what’s the point of wearing something for a long time if it looks bad right?!
After this, I won’t try anymore Colourpop Ultra Mattes, I liked the Ultra Satin ones, and I don’t care about the Ultra Blotted because I don’t like the finish.
It was a shame, I really wanted this to work!
What about you? Have you ever tried Colourpop’s Ultra Matte? What was your experience? Do you have any tips for this to work? I need sorcery!Β
Thank you for reading! Hope you liked my honest thoughts! And always come back for more!
Xoxo,
Sofia

I really liked the shades, but the formula is bad! I don’t know if it were mine that were spoiled because of the shipping or something, because usualy I only see good reviews, but I didn’t like the Ultra Mattes! π¦

I wish! Ahahah
But I think they already have a gazillion youtubers and Instagram models doing that job for free! They wouldn’t bother! xD

I haven’t tried any of the shades that you have here except for Bianca. But it wasn’t bad on me and for me, though. Although, I actually experienced everything you mentioned here prior to learning how to actually apply these properly. So I’ve learned that you should actually apply these in VERY THIN layers and build up from there. Plus, you should not smack your lips together mid application. Trust me, it did the trick. π

I don’t smack my lips with any liquid lipstick, but maybe I applied a thick layer. I’ll keep trying because I really liked the shades! π
Thanks for the tips! π

I actually really like the ultra mattes. But for some reason liquid lipsticks don’t dry out my mouth that much. I always apply the colourpop lip primer and a lip liner before application so maybe that would help? It’s a shame that the formula doesn’t work for you because the colors really look gorgeous! But a lot of people have the same problems as you so I think it might just depend on the person.
